Nomadic travels over the past decade have kept me from developing deep roots in any single community. I have a family of friends spread all over North America. Love of travel and desire to build community are a challenging balancing act. I like living simply, spending winters in warm climates with good company, enjoying freedom and adventure. This means practicing methods of sustainable travel and cooperative living. A large spaceship could help solve this problem. Do you like sailing?
Picture living like Peter Pan in perpetual dream-time; exploring all over the planet; wild parties at sea and remote places; bicycling, kayaking and kite surfing; learning from an inspirational crew that will blow your mind daily with their talents, insights and lust for life.
A friend of mine is selling his 45ft schooner for $45,000 and I'm planning to have a crew together by next summer to buy the boat and begin living on board. This ship will be owned and managed collectively, specifically to be an experiment in co-operation. Each person involved brings their talents, networks and resources to the table. If a dozen of us each toss in $3000, and find two friends to each contribute $500, we'd have more than enough.
I know our circle can do anything when we put hearts, minds and hands together. We really are action heroes... the leaders, movers, shakers, shamans, fire starters -- just like right out of the comic books and movies, writing the stories of our lives, creating culture as we dream it.
The vision is to make this vessel a venture through the Action Hero Network to offer affordable opportunities to many organizations and individuals. The Action Hero Network is a 501(c)3 social profit project of the International Humanities Center, dedicated to promoting what action heroes are doing everywhere. That doesn't mean we can't making a fair living doing this. We can and will.
Everyone loves the romance of a drive-in theater. Imagine a sail-in theater! Since high school, I've presented hundreds of slide shows sharing my adventures and motivational messages, and have always dreamed of projecting on huge screens in public areas. This ship happens to have some very large screens. The deck is also open enough to act as a stage. Our performances would offer entertaining spectacles introducing culturally diverse earth-loving lifestyles, and show educational documentaries that focus attention on places that need our help.
This winter I'll return to work on the Roblito Community Center for Cultural Exchange in Mexico by plane, which will cost me around $1000, and us all the pollution of more jet fuel exhaust. The following winter, we'll be sailing this ship to Roblito, and I hope to pick you up along the way.
Thanks for allowing the opportunity to share this with you. Images of the ship can be seen at: actionhero.smugmug.com/gallery/1970187/9
